100 MILE & DISTRICT SEARCH and RESCUE

Membership

OMADSAR is comprised of approximately 30 Ground Search and Rescue members with 6 Members-in-Training for 2006/7. Currently, our group has the following certifications:

  • OAR (Organized Avalanche Response)
  • Track Aware
  • Rope Rescue Team Member / Leader
  • Team Leaders
  • Search Managers
  • OFA Level I & III

Prospective Members

The only prerequisites for new members are:

  • a commitment to SAR,
  • a willingness to learn,
  • and the ability to work as a team member.

GSAR Course

All members are required to complete the GSAR course. Although the course is provided free of charge, there is a small deposit for workbooks. The course is taught by volunteer instructors and requires about 100 hours of instructional time.
Topics covered in the GSAR modules include the following:

  • SAR organization
  • search procedure
  • map & compass
  • survival & safety
  • communication
  • search techniques
  • evacuation

All GSAR students also require a basic First Aid course, and must undergo a criminal records check.
